Mandrake is such a tease! It'll only give me loven' once!
Mandrake boots the first time, and won't boot after that. It freezes on a message that goes somthing to the effect of "Building Windowing Sessions". I had to install using an alternate Kernel and disabled the following in installation: USB, PCMCIA, and HardDrake. The last time I installed, and it booted, I checked to see if the settings were the same as what I told it during installation. Somehow my video card and monitor were back to what the installation program wanted them to be. I changed them back hoping it would somehow fix the problem, but it didn't. Does ANYONE have even the slightest suggestion?

I can't say how you can fix it. I didn't, just switched to RH. I had simular problems, It would set my video card resolution to high and freeze when the card ran out of memory, or just sit and blink on 'startx'. Also would not recognize my old ttyS0 serial mice. I could get it installed and working, next boot it would not find it so it would remove it again! I installed RH 6.0 on the same system slick as hog fat, no problems at all.

Hi guys
Try the following, it may work.
As soon as youve installed everything first time, go into the control centre, select security level, and choose high, which stops all unnecessary daemons from loading at boot.
Then go into boot options and turn off that (grrrr cant remember what its called now, something like anacron) there,s five options, pick the top one.
Reboot, it worked for me when my networking kept getting reconfigured..
Hope it works.

RecoilUK, you kick butt! Your tip did the trick! Thanks a bunch... now if I can only figure out why 3 different C++ compilers insist that my *char variable insists that it is an int...
