Mandrake for i386

Hi all,

What's the last version of Mandrake, that would work on i386 platform. I have version 6.1, but wanted to put newer that would still go on a 486Mhz pc. Mandrakes' site doesn't have anything older than 8.0, I think. So where can I get an iso of earlier version that still works on a 486?

Im not sure what the last version Of Linux mandrake that would run on a 486 but I would assume Mandrake 4.0

However I know where to get older version from 7.2 upwards but not anything lower

Oh though you could use Redhat Linux 4 or 5
To download RedHat Linux

However this isn't an iso image this is just all the install files

and anyway Mandrake is similar to Redhat as Mandrake originally started as an enhanced version of RedHat

However you will find if you a version like Mandrake 7.2 and you install only what you need and use something like Blackbox or Icewm as your window Manager in X it could still possibly work fine

Also try search for older versions in a search engine like Yahoo you might still come up with something

Ok, now that I am not the first to respond... :) I think if you try using the source rpm disk to install most of your software, then you should be able to install for your desired arch. Also, you *should* be able to run up to 9.0 still on your 486, I *think* it simply won't be optimized for your hardware. I know it's backwards compatible, but I do think it's forward as well.

Anyway, I think up to 8.0 is ok for 486 from the get go with normal iso's. Here's 1 of MANY links to old mandy isos:

To see TONS more:

You can find one closest and fastest to you that way.

Good Luck ;)

Cool
