Mandrake 8.2 damn slow?

Hi All,

Have a question. I had installed Mandrake 8.2 a week ago; and it had KDE2.xxxx ; so i installed KDE3.0 on top of it. and couple of other stuff i installed.

Now my system has become terribly slow. takes hell lots of time to come up. afterwards its not that much slow; but it is slower than it used to be.
Dont know how to find where problems are. any pointers on how to tackle that.
- still have enuf hard disk space empty.

get rid of kde 3.....gnome ....

get something lighter....

I run wmaker . . .in various distro . .all seem to go faster ....

btw there is a similar thead

saying that the pc was running like 486..

check the boot messages

dmesg | more

and check what CPU value was found..
