yeah for anyone who wants the beta8.2 version, you have to be a member with mandrake. http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/ftp.php3

therion12 01-28-2002 08:53 PM

oh, ok. I found a mirror though that allows guests so i got the 8.2 beta copy. As soon as i get a job i'm definatly registering to keep the support alive.

Any1 using MDrke8.2

Who ever installed should give promps on what to expect, like hows the install? any glitches? Is it still a bloated system? How stable is it? Where's the love people..........

therion12 01-30-2002 04:04 PM

I am wondering too, nobody wants to tell me. I guess i will probably have to risk it all to take the MDK 8.2 plunge.

trusouthrnplaya 01-30-2002 06:03 PM

Has anybody beta tested this already?

therion12 01-31-2002 07:41 AM

I have, couldn't even finish the install without errors.

SlCKB0Y 02-01-2002 09:10 AM

Beta tester

Hey I just finished doing the install on my laptop. Toshiba 1605. Basicially the only improvements seem to be with the desktop envirement. By the way I use KDE. The extra tools seem nice, but the performance is the same. The down side is now my sound card is not being recognized(downer) and im still having trouble with my network card. Ive also completed the Upgrade procedure as well. I like that method a lot. It cuts install time down alot. gcc is still version 2.96 (blah)...... I must add after upgrade it did crash on me after rebooting. but I did another reboot and it still has been up???? hummm. I hope that the beta version will not be close to what the finial ver is.

Im getting really sick of your moronic comments on every post. on 80% of your posts, you say something completely misinformed, and on 50% you say something misinformed AND something along the lines of "but its too expensive"
That's twice that I know of where you've personally insulted another member of the forums. I don't mean you 'flamed' them, but really and personally insulted them. And, on reflection, they both seem to be aimed at therion12. I don't think it's really necessary, do you?

Have you actually read this guy's posts? He constantly contradicts himself and puts forward misinformation and half truths. People behaving in this manner harm linux generally, and will frustrate individuals when they spend hours trying to work out why therion12's "solution" couldnt help them, when in fact his information is wrong.

and before you start taking swings at me, your beloved forum mods have been slinging quite a bit of mud at this guy as well. would you like me to link to examples?

Thymox 02-01-2002 08:40 PM

I'm not saying that you're wrong in slating someone when they give misinformation, but commenting on them personally seems a little childish, to me at least. So therion12 may give misinformation, bad information, whatever, but calling someone a 'loser' because they have had errors when installing a beta-release is not really deserving. Surely there have been enough posts from people trying to install stable distros and having problems that it not entirely unexpected that someone who is trying to install a beta release would also therefore have problems?
