Arrow Mandrake 8.2 & 9.1 Installation Problems

hi ,

I am new with linux and had some problems installing Mandrake Linux 8.2 and 9.1 .

Here's my story:

I first tried with 8.2 - istallation was freezing right after i press enter to begin (the very first step) in the part where it sais: CHECKING PARTITIONS - it stayed there for hours..i could't move on - (all my partition were FAT 32)

I recently upgradated my pc and tried installing 9.1 - i thought everything was going well- i choose auto allocate, mandrake created their own partition but istallation was freezing while trying to format the partitions (from the very first)

The wire thing is that i then tried to install the previous version 8.2 and it worked perfectly. As a matter of fact installation was super fast. The only problem with 8.2 is that although my USB Gigabyte optical mouse was detected fine the first time i run it - it doesn't work !!

I use mousedrake to install it but nothing there too.I configure it ok before installation completes..drivers found i even did the tests...

Sorry for the long post but any help will be welcome...I've been strugling with these for about a week now..i uninstall/reinstall 8.2 about 7-8 times....

thank you very much

Have you tried the 9.1 cds with another machine (or compared the checksums)?

As a work around, you can create the partitions with 8.2 installer, format them and then boot 9.1, choose expert partitioning, only show it your mount points and not allow it to format.

If it fails also with another machine, it looks that the cd's broken. You need to burn new ones.

Angry Video card and/or monitor problem

I am having a similar problem! Whenever i try to install Mandrake Linux 9.1. Before the installation begins it tells me that it is sfe to reboot my computer. I reboot but i get no picture. the monitor light just flashes and nothing appears on the screen. I have tried running the installation in text mode and low res mode but the monitor still cuts out at the reboot. PLEASE HELP!!!

max6110, low res or text mode should work on nearly all machines. Could you please try the cds with another machine (cdrom drive, that's the most important).
