Lycoris 2.1 ?

Hi all,

I'm a plain newbie and I have next to no experiance in linux. Is there any Lycoris 2.1? I saw that on a website.

[link Removed as I cannot post it cause I'm new]

If there is a 2.1, what's the difference between that and the LX 1.4 ?

I'm confused. Also, is there any better distro for plain newbies apart from SuSE, Xandos?

Thanks.

I have moved this thread to Distributions, as it fits better there. Also, if you do a search for "newbie" and distro" or "best " and "distro", you will see that this comes up a lot (the "which distro is best for ..." question) and that there are a lot of opinions on the matter.

I would also suggest you check out our Distro Review Section and Distrowatch to get an idea of how the various distros work.

And, finally, welcome to LQ :D

Hi!

Thanks for the help. I'm sorry I posted in the wrong forum. I'll have a look.

In the mean time, if anyone can answer my question about the versions..then please do...

Thanks.

I'd have to say that Xandros is as newbie as it gets :p

Haven't tried lycoris though. The problem with allot of these "newbie" distros is though, the package manager is good, but they don't supply enough software (atleast for me)...and installing packages via command line gives you a million dependency errors. I myself would use slackware...if I were you. It isn't a "newbie" distro..but once it's installed it's an amazing distro. If you download swaret for slack...all you do is type "swaret --install packagename" and it takes care of everything. Gentoo also does this, but it time consuming and a bit more advanced.
