Linux on floppy disk for a 486?
I have several 486s with 16MB of ram and a 500MB hard drive. They have no floppy disk drives, but an external cdrw has been attached but I could not get linux to boot from it.
They are not used and it would be nice to use them for word processing and perhaps to use as a backup file server for essential files. I do not know what distro are suitable, but they would have to be suitable for a newbie like me. :newbie: Thanks for any help. :D |
I'd suggest checking out the Linux Terminal Server Project. Great way to put old machines to good use!

This might be something that you could use. If your disk drives don't work, then you could do a network install.
