linux noob requires easy install amd64 linux...

....can anyone help? This will be my first ever linux install and I want it to be as easy as possible....mandrake 10 beta 2 for amd64 any good? I know its in beta but someone I asked seemed to think this was the best solution. I want something free as I don't know if I am going to keep a linux OS - I want to evaluate it first. If I decide to keep it then I am more than happy to pay for it. I paid M$ for god's sake LOL.

Oh, in case it makes differences my hardware comprises:

Shuttle SN85G4 Case (with integrated Nforce 3 150 Ethernet - mobo is shuttle FN85, also integrated Memory Card Slots on case front - would like to use these!)
Athlon 64 3200+
1gb TWINMOS PC3200 RAM
Sapphire Radeon 9800PRO 128mb
Audigy 2 ZS
Maxtor 250gb ATA 133 HDD (4 partitions and NTFS formatting)
NEC 2500a 8x DVD-RW / 32x CD-RW
Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop

thanks a lot.

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place.
