Exclamation Linux Newbie wants to know: Which distro is best for gaming?

Hi. I'm a 24 year old techie slacker, and I want to port to Linux ohsobaaaaad, but I'm afraid to leave Windows because I hate my modem and the drivers which I have to pay money for. Oh, yeah, and because I am such a newbie.

Oh, well.

I've tried two distros already - Knoppix and Mandrake 10 (which I don't like, because I have to pay for updates. I know, they're a company and they need money to stay alive, but I'd rather not.)

Which brings me to my question: I want a good Linux gaming distro. Can anyone recommend one?

personally I game on slackware, but any should be fine; it's moer about finding a distro which suits your mentality than which is best for runnign games, because at the end of the day you could be running indentical things on different distros

Pay for updates? I have a mandrake 10 system, you just run Mandrake update, and it doesnt cost anything.
