Linux Mint Anyone??
Has Anyone else given Linux Mint a try??
http://www.linuxmint.com
I installed it on my Laptop and I have not had any problems.
I have Ubuntu 6.10 installed on one of my desktops and it took me forever just to be able to play a DVD.
I installed Linux Mint on my laptop, and not only was I immediately attached to my Wi-Fi network but I could play DVDs & MP3s from the get go.
So far so good.

lunar, go with a bigger name Linux distribution. That way there will be lots of people able to help you out.
Follow the bottom link in my signature to find a distribution chooser quiz. It should give you a huge boost in getting started.

I never had a problem with a good download, but good luck with that quiz, I think I'll take it as well, never hurts to learn about what is out there!
But if you do go with Linux Mint, there forum is pretty good once you can get logged on.

Ah, I didn't see that Linux Mint was 99% Ubuntu. That is good because the Ubuntu people should mostly be able to help you out. Linux Mint may be a good choice for you guys.

I have not installed the new distro yet, as I had an issue with the Wi-Fi working from the live CD which was not an issue with the previous distro, I have left a bug report on the forum and I am awaiting help.....
A far as your games are concerned they are not part of the distro but easily available in the repositories

Linux Mint isn't a bad distro(at least what little I've used it)...
I downloaded and used the Live version fairly extensively to help someone who installed it. What I found, just about any command you pick up off the Ubuntu FAQ, works with Mint(provided the appropriate repos are added), just for Grins, I also installed Automatix2 on the live version, to see if it would cause Mint to hiccup. No problems, Automatix2 detected Mint as Ubuntu 6.10, and I installed several programs w/o issue. I set up wine the same way I would under Ubuntu, and ran a couple small windows apps that I like to use with Wine... Again, all worked well.
I personally had no issues at all with it, and the person I was helping was really just having newbie issues. I only ran it on my laptop, which is a bit on the old side(1ghz, 768mb Ram, Intel video, 20gig hard drive, 2x DVD). This laptop runs it just as well as it does Xubuntu.
Only thing I don't like about Mint, is the desktop environment. I'd prefer a traditional Gnome or Xfce environment. Mint uses a fairly customized version of Gnome IIRC, I imagine if I were to install it, I could figure out how to install a normal Gnome or Xfce interface.

LinuxMint
I'm a linux newbie, and tried out a bunch of live cd distros before I chose LinuxMint. I originally installed DreamLinux, but it's still too buggy for me. LinuxMint Daryna works really well. 2 seconds after I booted for the first time I was connected to my wireless using my onboard wireless card, which I hadn't been able to use in XP (no clue why).

Linux Mint Elyssa
Well, I've used Linux for years, and Linux Mint is the first distribution that when I showed friends and family members they all decided they wanted to install it and move away from the dreaded Windows Vista.
The problem I've had with it on my desktop machine, however, unlike my wife's computer and my daughter's computer, is that I've had to reformat my HD a dozen times and reintall it when problems came up. The last time I had to do that was this morning.
The machine decided that I didn't have the correct permission to enter my own home folder at login. I was unable to resolve the issue after about 4 hours of trying chmod, etc.
