Linux from the ground up

Is there a resource out there (in cyber space or wherever) that will help you design a linux system from the ground up?

I am starting to get the idea from reading about different distros and such that no one distro ever gives you exactly what youre looking for...

look right above you and take a peek at the LFS forum.. or look into www.linuxfromscratch.com site.. the home of the build yourself your own linux distro... :D

trickykid: this looks rather involved and i suspect it should be... i see you have done this yourself... is it really that difficult?

actually its not so hard. if you know the basics as it seems you do, the instructions and book are very good and easy to understand and its fairly not that hard to do or accomplish.

you expect to build an operating system from nothign without it being just a little bit complicated??

Following the LFS book isn't hard at all. The real test comes when you're staring at a freshly booted command line. If you don't know how Linux works on a modest level you're going to spend a while reading plenty of docs before you'll be able to do anything with your system.
