Linux for sound guys
Hi kids,
Is there a distro well suited for recording hi-res audio?

Moved: This thread is more suitable in <Linux - Distributions> and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.
These distributions that are aimed at Multimedia production come to my mind: Ubuntu Studio, AVLinux, Studio 13.37 (commercial), Studioware.

Also, 64 Studio. (Haven't tried it though).
EDIT: After having a second look on DistroWatch, it seems it has not been developed since 2008, so you can discard it.

You might take a look at SlackerMedia, which explains how to set up a media studio on Slackware. Even if you choose not the use Slackware, the site contains a lot of splendid information about media creation and editing with Linux.

If you want a distribution more centered around audio, any distribution will do, but you should look into the OSS sound drivers from 4Front as they will have better latency and audio quality, as well as look into the JACK low-latency audio toolkit.

The specialist AV distros come with a low-latency kernel, which you would have to provide yourself for a general distro. As far as I know (not very far!), this involves patching a vanilla kernel, so if your distros has tweaked the kernel that would be an additional complication. If some-one makes a tool for the job, why re-invent the wheel?
