Linux for my old laptop?
 
hello all i was wondering if yall could help me out here.

I have an old laptop 386 with 12 megs of ram and 320 meg harddrive. I want to install a linux on there with a gui. could anyone help me out. probly the hardest part about this is that i dont have a cdrom drive.

In all seriousness even the most basic X Window Manager will chug on a system like that. For console mode apps, it'll be fine. You can probably squeeze a Slackware or Debian install onto it but I wouldn't even think about trying anything else.

I have to agree with LSD here...

I have an old 486 laptop and couldn't install a windows manager on it. So I installed slackware without gui (just console) - no problem, runs fine.

If you don't have a cdrom, try alfaLinux - just 2 floppy disks.
