Lightweight Server Distro
Hi all

Was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a lightweight server distro for a PIII can't remember the Mhz has a decent amount of memory 786Mb or so.

Needs all the server stuff apache mysql ftp and rsync, no X or window managers and preferably a web based interface for maintenance as it will be a headless setup

I would prefer all the tools to be included so don't have to muck around installing packages

Thanks for any feedback

Mostly all distros can do that.
If you want to learn go for Slackware.
Debian is a good approach too.

For minimum mucking around, Debian 3.1 is a good choice. Debian Stable is popular for servers because it is purposefully NOT updated with newer versions of software but it is nevertheless maintained with timely security updates. A lot of people prefer having frequent updates to the latest versions of software for desktop workstations, but this is bad for a server because you never know when a software update could break things.

I have founf FreeNAS although BSD sounds just what I need, or failing that will give Debian a go
