i downloaded libranet 2.7 tonight out of curiosity, debian based linux distro. to say the least, i was a bit surprised with this distro, some of the latest packages on a debian distro! first of all , this is the free version if libranet, if you want kde 3.1,etc, you got to get the newer versons, 2.8 and 2.81, got to buy em from the libranet site, either download or cd,s-. libranet 2.7 is actuallly newer than debian-woody , that,s a big plus. the big thing that i like is the desktop XAdminmenu icon on the desktop. open it up, type in your admin root password, and you get into the control panel . this is what makes libranet so different. have not used this yet, but have heard many postitives about it. click on one tab to update kernal, another to update packages from interenet, gnome apt, . the adminmenu control center is like the suse yast control center.

check it out , libranet free version 2.7, installation is very easy, and see for yourself. believe i will download 2.81 tonight, i like it that much. cost a bit, but the Xadminmenu is worth the price alone. this distro is a pleasant surprise for people who have always wanted to install debian, but have been reluctant to struggle with Debians confusing installer and lack of hardware detection, i know because i have tryed. furthermore, libranet adds value with the excellent adminmenu utility, which can save sysem administrators from having ulcers.

You can use apt-get to update any packages you might want.Just go to to see if you can find what you need.Of course you can also use the official deb's.

Yeah, Libranet is tops. Stable and up to date, it's Debian tweaked in just the right places.... My favorite feature - recompiling the kernel from Adminmenu ... it takes care of everything apart from menuconfig itself, right down to creating a new entry in Grub (while thoughtfully preserving the old entry as well)

agree. for someone who wants to use debian, it,s tops in my book. i just installed realplayer 8, shockfash, took about 5 minutes. installing new software is so easy, and for the installation, it,s the easiest of the linux systems.
