Knoppix Will Not Boot

Both Knoppix 3.2 & 4.0.2 will not boot.

I was checking out what is on these Live CD's, have heard a lot of good things using Knoppix live CDs to do different task. But they will not boot for me. In the verbose screen it gets as far as trying to recognize my ethernet and hangs.

HERE ARE SOME OF MY SPECS:

I was wondering if anyone could tell from this what may be a known problem why Knoppix will not boot for me ?

Nothing jumps out as something that would cause problems, though I'll freely admit I don't know hardware very well. Most obvious thing is either a bad download or bad cd burn. You should chech the MD5 sum for the .iso file you downloaded, and when you burn the disc you should try using a lower speed than is the default.

There are some cheat codes that you can use to bypass some HW detection:

knoppix no{apic,agp,apm,audio,ddc} Skip parts of HW-detection (1)
knoppix no{dhcp,fstab,firewire} Skip parts of HW-detection (2)
knoppix no{pcmcia,scsi,swap,usb} Skip parts of HW-detection (3)

try:

boot: knoppix no dhcp

Knoppix Will Not Boot

I think I can eliminate a bad CD. I burned the 3.2 and 4.0.2 myself, then I purchased a 4.0.2 from Edmunds. It just seems to be the Knoppix Live CDs, all my other live CDs work fine on this computer.

I just tried all three of the Knoppix's on my second computer, which is an Emachines also, but is an older machine and they all booted fine, but that one has a Linksys EtherFast PCI Adapter.

Tomorrow I will try kencaz idea. Thanks for the replies ! I'll post back if I find the problem.

Ok, I tried that but it did not change a thing, here is the last line I see when it hangs up:

Network device etho detected, DHCP broadcasting for IP

Anyone ?

Knoppix Will Not Boot

Just in case anyone is following this post and is interested, I solved the problem by replacing my Intel PRO/100 VE Network Card with a Linksys EtherFast card and now it boots.
