I have bounced from mandrake to knoppix on my harddrive a few times while trying to decide which distro I prefer. I have decided to go with knoppix but I my last attempt to install knoppix hung.
Knoppix will boot from the cd fine but the install crashes though previously it did not.
I hosed my mbr in the process so I fdisk'd /mbr to confirm I can get into my win98 stuff. however,
I have reformatted linux partition multiple times, fdisk /mbr and successfully reinstalled mandrake in trying to sniff out the source of the problem but continue to get mid install crashes trying knoppix 3.1 and 3.2.
fyi...prior to the crash the blue screen starts to have can't sync 'something' error. unfortunately, I can't read all of the error due to blue install screen getting in the way.

any help troubleshooting is appreciated.
