Kernel Panic problem


This is the first time i am using Gentoo previously Slackware

As before i am getting the error with lilo boot loader when booting gentoo

kernel panic error unable to mount root "807"
Please append correct boot option
not syncying

I have sata harddisk with intel 865GBF motherboard
Ati Radeon 9600XT

I am using kernel 2.6.11 although i have enable sata support it does'nt work

my lilo.conf file has the following statement

root=/dev/sda10
as my root partition

even my fstab file is correct i cannot solve this problem

Try hitting your keyboard during the boot process.
If you get any boot prompt, type your <flavor> here and then type
Code:
root=/dev/hdb1
, for example. (adapt /dev/hdb1 to your real root partition.)
The flavor may be linux, or idepci, or isapnp, or bf24. Also try rescue.
