Is there a Linux distribution that is 100% GNU?

Hello,

Is there Linux distribution(s) that is/are fully 100% based on GNU free softwares (without single proprietary)?

Likely none, right?

Probably gNewSense, which is non longer much active.

Best regards
X.

Actively maintained. I've tried both of these and they do work.

There is a better list here as well:

I don't believe that based on Ubuntu, that you can be GNU. Sorry. What about the Ubuntu's Spywares? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXnfa0H30L4

Did you scroll down to the Comments section on that video, where user Kenneth H M Farrow gives detailed instructions to disable the Ubuntu "spyware"?

It's fine to dislike Ubuntu (I'm not a big fan either) but let's at least get our facts straight. :)

You are kidding? In Gnu philosophy, "How to disable Spywares into installed linux distribution" has nothing to do with Linux and neither GNU at all.

Dragora, nuff said.

My point is simply, if random-youtube-commentator can figure out how to remove the "spyware" packages from Ubuntu, then I'm sure the developers of Trisquel figured it out, too. :)

By the way, the Stallman link you posted is old news from 2013. As of the year 2016, Ubuntu has disabled the controversial "spyware" by default, and it is now an "opt-in" service. Let's get our facts straight. ;)

I've heard it said by various people over the last year, but remember @Snowpine... "We live in a post-fact and post-truth era."

Also... If it isn't "GNU" then why is it listed on the official "GNU" site and endorsed by "GNU"?

This is also the distro that the FSF distributes on its "membership cards". They also provide mirrors of it on the FSF servers, along with dragora. I can't think of any better indicator of its status.

I believe that you misunderstand GNU. I has nothing to do with lack of spyware.

Why are you repeating what i've said already? Post #2, the very first reply.

Trisquel has become the official distro. for FSF, Stallman uses it and the developer is now the senior sysadmin for FSF. So I would say that makes it official.

My first impression trying this on VM, it sucks. will not install, does not connect to the internet, does not see the Vhdd already set up and partitioned, .... one may get better luck on an actual PC, but in VM No GO, not here anyways.

but it does have a voice that talks to you...

ChuangTzu 12-11-2016 01:42 PM

interesting. Usually works well either way. One could also try stock Debian stable leave the repos at default and do not add non-free or contrib. That is pretty much free/libre. Only reason FSF does not endorse it is because the wiki tells you how to add these repos and they host non-free software in them.
