Angry Is PCLinuxOS Open Source ????

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me if PCLOS is actually open source ?

I posted a thread on their official forum asking where i can find the latest src.rpms.

and the forum moderators deleted the thread !

Don't get me wrong I do like the distro and it is one of my favorites, i just want to do some customization.

I am very disappointed that they deleted that thread

Regards
Steve

Some of the components inherently are (GNU coreutils, Linux kernel, etc.). By the terms of the GPL (and other licenses) they must make source available to you when they redistribute the binaries. If they are not doing so, they are violating the GPL.

PCLOS is based on Mandrake/Mandriva. Its author was one of the best creators of 3rd-party rpms for Mandrake. I am reasonably sure the source *is* available. Did you ask the moderators (in a polite way) about why your thread was deleted?

Hi Guys

Thanks for the responses.

I havent asked why they deleted the thread as i was not happy at the time and if you dont have anything nice to say then dont.

I asked them for the source politely.

I asked "Hi All i was wondering where can i obtain the latest src rpms ?
or are these no longer being distributed ?"

I dont think there was any problems with that ?

Thanks
Steve

I don't really see anything wrong with it, but then, at the forum I moderate, I'm "the 'nice' one". On my site, though, we normally let a poster know why their thread/post was deleted (unless it's obvious, like porn, or something).

I would ask a moderator, saying something like

"I asked a question the other day about src.rpms, and I can no longer find it. Did it get deleted? If so, why?"

Hopefully, they would be mature enough to provide a clear, non-accusatory answer.

(FWIW, over the years, I *have* occasionally deleted threads I was moving - hit the wrong button, whatever. But I always apologize to the poster when I screw up something like that. )

Check the forum rules on the PCLOS forum - if there is already a thread asking for src rpms, some boards will delete threads. Seconding the "ask nicely" option.

http://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mir...05/SRPMS.thac/ was found by me by typing pclinuxos src into Google.

Is there a place ISO installs can be down loaded? I don't know how to deal with rpms or care to down all those individual files.
