Is Feren Next based on Kubuntu?
The current Feren distro is based on Mint Cinnamon and it appears that the focus is on theming and utilities to improve the attraction, and ease of transition and usage, for people coming to Linux from Windows or MacOS.
Feren Next is still in RC status. It is based on Ubuntu with KDE. If Feren's focus is still "customization", KDE offers more potential than Cinnamon. What isn't clear is whether the Feren team started with Kubuntu as a base, or is doing its own KDE integration.
The implication is that Qt and KDE integration isn't trivial, which is why Mint stopped doing it. If Feren is building on Kubuntu, the critical integration problems will already have been solved; distro issues will tend to be limited to the customization Feren introduces. If they are doing their own Qt/KDE integration, there is more likelihood of a wider range of issues.
Does anyone know whether Feren is starting with Kubuntu as it's base for Next? That isn't clear from the Feren website, and it doesn't look like they have their own forum for questions like this.
