Is anyone familiar with AntiX12 installation and usage?
I just got my live CD of Antix12. My old HP a532x computer now has an unconfigured GeForce 6200 graphics card in it and I am hoping that I can install Antix12 and download the driver needed for the graphics card. I am asking for help before I try anything with Antix! Is anyone familiar with it?
antiX is a cut down MEPIS, which is a customized Debian. Your card should work out of the box with antiX 12, but you can alternatively install the proprietary drivers (available in the repositories for Debian/MEPIS/antiX).
I would recommend not to create partitions now, delete those you have already created for your antiX installation.
Then start from the antiX CD and start the GUI installer. When it comes to partitioning start the partition manager and create two new partitions, one for swap (should be at least the amount of your RAM if you want to use hibernate, otherwise 1GB will be sufficient) and one for your system.
Note down the exact name of those partitions, then make sure you have the "custom partitions" option checked before proceeding.
In the next window just use the dropdown-lists for choosing the right partitions for swap and system (/ or root-partition).
You can set it to use the whole disk. In that case it will wipe out the whole harddisk.
If you set it to use custom partitions you can install it without wiping out other partitions.
Well I installed AntiX12 onto my computer and configured my external modem but this os is going to take me a lot of time to adjust to. I downloaded the driver for my printer; but I was informed that I had to disable the CD sources in the apt sources.list. Does anyone at LQ know how to do that? Thanks!
I have an sh run file containing the driver for my GeForce 6200 graphics card but I must install it as root and I do not know the AntiX terminal commands to do that. Does any LQ member know how to do this? Thanks!

Well I re-installed AntiX to wipe out everything else on my hard drive. Roky, a moderator at AntiX forums, showed me how to use the package manager to hook up my printer and the terminal code for my graphics card. AntiX is way out of my league and I find myself wondering what motivated the developers to put it together in such a fashion.
