ipv4 on centos 6

it seems on centos 6 installed on xenserver does not use ipv4 by default, so it wouldn't get ipv4 address. What do i need to configure in runlevel 3 (no DE installed) to enable ipv4 address?

as root:

system-config-network

configure interfaces

yum remove NetworkManager

vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-XXX xxx=whatever interfaces you want...

then choose YES for onboot and NO for NetworkManager controlled, once those lines are edited hit ESC : wq! Enter

service network restart

chkconfig network on

it seems that NetworkManager is not installed and no entry mentioning network manager in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

any other issue that would've caused this?

it seems that i misinterpret the output of ifconfig

on a centos 6 installed as vm on vmware workstation 7, i had to put ifup eth0 in /etc/rc.d/rc.local

Code:
echo "ifup eth0" >> /etc/rc.d/rc.local
set ONBOOT=yes in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

lastly install setuptool & system-config-network-tui (so i can easily configure network later on)
