Intel 845 G / GL graphic chipset unrecognized......
 

Hello,

I installed SuSe 8.0 recently on my machine but it didint recognize the graphical chipset mentioned above.After messing with sax2 i finally manged to start the "X" but with devastating results it allows me only 8 bit color depth and no matter what i do it stays on 8 bit.I have tried all combinations with drivers available.If anyone knows the solution to the probelm,please help me owercome this problem.

P.S.-Do other distros have the same probelm recognizing the chipset mentioned above?

I think you may have the same chipset I have...

I am running Redhat 7.3 on an Asus L3 series Laptop with an 845 chipset, which works fine....

Unless I try to build my own Kernel, in which case the whole system hangs on reboot at INET=version 2.84 there is apparently a kernel update that may address this but haven't gone that far yet.
