Installing Trustix 3.0

Installing: trustix 3.0
This is my first linux distro. I will be using it to setup apache, php, mysql as a web server for several websites. (and maybe host a battlefield 2 server :)

HARDWARE:
ECS K7SEM rev1.0 Motherboard with onboard RealTek LAN
6GB WD HD
800Mhz AMD Duron
576MB RAM

Trying to Install Trustix 3.0 downloaded largest ISO from 10-5-2005 and burned to a CD-R

I get all the way through the installation with any combiniation of packages, including just the minimum install, but right at the end when the final step reaches 100%, I get a message similar to:

Installation Error
...package broken...

OK
(it does not specify what package)
Then it exits to the shell.

It downloaded everything ok when I had more packages selected. I've tried 2 CD's and several mirrors, but it fails everytime. I've even tried only installing the minimum package. Each time I do this, I also delete the partition from the previous install, so that it uses the auto partition on an "empty" drive.

What should I look for next?

Checksums ok?

Try another distro? Most will do what you want to do with less stress.

Just curious...did you try to log in ??
There is no GUI with Trustix so it might have installed (all except for the broken package) :)

Also, you might want to try Trustix 2.2 instead.

I did try to boot with no avail.

I tried Trustix 2.2, Debian and Red hat, both which said something was currupted in the install. I gave up and installed windows XP Pro, which worked ok, but everything I download (zip, exe, msi) is currupted and doesn't run. (the download is on a 3Mb connection).

I also tried to run sp2 update from a CD, but it said the file was currupted when unpacking it. I know that CD is good because I've used it on many other computers recently. I tried another HD similar results, but it was the exact same model from the extact same bunch of old computers. Check disk runs OK and doesn't find any problems. It did take considerbly long considering its only a 6GB HD though...

So either both Hard drives are bad, which may be likely, or something else weird is going on.

My other guesses could be that the IDE controller/motherboard is not doing well. I've already tried another IDE cable, and another CD-ROM drive. Could it be a bad RAM stic?. I have one 512MB and one 128MB stick

I will purchase another hard drive and my hope is that everything will work fine. If not, I will try another motherboard, then new memory.

Yes I will try to install linux again, I'm not giving up! though I haven't extensivly used it, I'd prefer something slim, simple and fast for my web server.

Windows wastes too much space and time.
