We'll be installing Red Hat on one of the computers in our network. I was looking at the directories at ftp.redhat.com and find this list:

Can someone tell me which one of these files is the Intel based install? I guess the choice is between the "...ja..." and the "...respin..."By the way, what does those tags signify?

Their site must be very popular as it takes a long time to get a directory list. I couldn’t get the files to start transferring using Netscape. I had to choose between ncftp and wget.

I’m starting the transfer of the “ja” selection for now.

The reason for installing Redhat on one of our machines is its popularity with all the support ports. Most of the ports always start out by specifying tested on Redhat or, their Linux (Redhat) port. There are a few programs that we were having problems with, and before I go to the distributors for support, I’d rather to test the application in the same environment it was ported to.

It turns out that the "ja" version is the japanese verion of Redhat. The respin is the is a redo of the regular release. The upgrade is an upgrade that will go on top of the needed 7.0 install.

I had the ja file 90% transferred and was tempted to continue and see if I could install that disk. But didn't want to spend the bandwidht in transferred two disk at the same time, so I started the transfer or the respin.

After this install, I should be able to answer more questions related to the Redhat distribution.

Thought I'd update the thread so that everyone would know that this question has a resolution.
