installing packages with nautilus
Dear all,
I am trying to figure out how to install packages with nautilus under redhat 9. After changing the package to be executable, I double-click on it, which according to the redhat manual installs the rpm, but it doesn't do anything. I also have tried right-clicking on the icon and going to "Open-With" -> "Install Packages". Nothing happens. Does this not work for others or is it just me? Please note that I know how to install rpms from the command line, but I'd like to get this to work also. Thanks, eli |
mime-list problem?
I guess that your problem is in how the mime-list is set up. The generic catagory "Install Packages" may not be set up to launch a specific program.
You want to launch a program which is a GUI interface to rpm. The KDE program is called kpackage but I don't know what program the Red Hat version of Gnome might use as a GUI interface to rpm. |
I also use RH 9 and have the same problem. I am new to Linux. What I have found is that the rpms must be made specifically for RH 9. The rpms may also have to reflect the kernel version. Dependencies also some times stop the system from installing packages. The terminal installation solves many of these problems.
