* An update to portage is available. It is highly recommended
* that your update portage now, before any other packages are updated
* please do so and then update All your configuration files
Ran;
# emerge update portage
Code:
Calculating dependencies
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satify "update"
I left it aside and continued to;
Code Listing 22: installing a kernel source
# USE="-doc symlink" emerge gentoo-sources
Code:
Calculating denpendencies
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "gentoo-source"
Please advise how to solve these problems. How to update other packages? What are the packages?
so you'v changed sitro yet again...? still not learnt how to read documentation? if you did, you'd see you need to run "emerge portage" not "merge update portage"

First off, in the handbook it tells you that you don't have to update portage at this stage. You can do this after your system is built. You must use the correct syntax for portage anyway. The correct way to type that would have been
Code:
emerge -u portage
Next, lets spell "gentoo-sources" correctly. That will get you the kernel sources you need.
