Info/resources for building new server distro?

I want to build a (media) server distro based on OMV. All the “build your own distro toolkits” seem to focus on building a desktop distro. Can someone please point me toward info/resources that document how to add packages, configurable data, and customize the installer to ask the user for additional info during the initial installation?

For anyone who wants to get involved:, the future home of the repo is at https://github.com/DigitalLifestyleC...s/bazinga-box/

My advice is: Don't. You obviously haven't thought this through. It's more than point & click, it's get a divorce, quit your job, and spend your life working on a joyless project that you give away for free.

Build your own one once - fine. You need a team around your vision to build a distro.

OMV is based on Debian. The Debian installer's internals, as well as information how to modify it and how to remaster the Debian CD are available on the Debian wiki.

The Debian maintainers guide tells you how to package and preconfigure software.

Then build a desktop distro first, once you got that, move on to your special bazinga box.
