I still have a dream, of The Chosen One, and "Ask not what your distro can do for you, but what you can do for your distro", once again
Hotness.Technology
I believe that there is an "ideal linux distro" - lets call it,
The Chosen One,
Im on the hunt for it >>>>

Ideal, in software development, means scientifcally provable as better, based on use-ability studies or long term usage data, not according to ones "Likes!"
Which linux distro gives you everything you could dream of? - Smallest footprint possible, everything there should be there for a stable distro, and nothing extra.
- Uses the best installer (I believe this is calamares but perhaps another?)
- I can select my own DE, I like XCFE with a good kde theme rather than KDE as it is BIG, which is bad for small footprints of little people
- I like the plasma/windows 11 style DE, which is taken care of by the point above
- I can choose my own apps with a set of install commands like "sudo apt install X". If I want a server profile or a desktop profile, just use a different set of install commands that I can keep in a text file.
- The best start/bottom left button menus. I like the one from Kubuntu so what do I have to install for this?
- all proprietary software can be removed or is optional to install, I didnt know I was paying with my privacy?
- includes a swap (not swap file - who invented this and why is it better?) that works (some dont allow hibernate during shutdown)
- I dont like Archies (arch) continual update, who wants to find out their own monitor/display doesnt work all of a sudden due to someone's idea of progress - ie an update?
- uses ext4 by default, or whatever is best, like I care, do your job ssd
- suggestions on the best set of apps for a home windows user to use, that would be useful to anyone, including apps like safeeyes and a good weather app, etc. Most distros give you a set for Gnome, KDE, deepin which usually have some good ones in each, but not the best of class for every users use case/functional area. There is only one best app for every use case - or two unfortunetaly each having some good parts, when free software can just be copied from one into another.
- bloatware is actually good, so I like bloatware, as long as it is useful and not a security issue. Every actually useful app that everyone should have.
- Most secure, ideally secure by default, not just "supposed to be secure" or "I heard it was secure"
- Finally, which passes muster under a good
Risk Analysis?
So the hunt begins, who will participate?
It is the hunt for the scientifically provable "best of linux" distro
Based on the above to start.
My technical background is a computer engineer from one of the best universities on the planet, and work experience as an early (third of fourth - undergrad - year hire) with Accenture Labs and then running my own consulting company with precision, predictable results - always. So I can lead this hunt. And some more stuff that I forget as Im "one old cranky bugger", but got tired of that now and back to

Meet TDE. Forked from the stable, mature KDE version that preceded its evolution into bloatware, so lightweight, and stable. Available for a dozen or so different operating systems.

Those are useless expectations. There is no best menu, best installer, best filesystem, best app or ideal whatever. The general distros are almost the same, so you can use whatever you want you will not find significant differences.
The best is always what you are familiar with and what you can manage.

....but you have just given us your preferred likes!!!
Take a basic setup of Devuan/Debian, then add all these things that you, (personally), want, & you will have it!
