I need a lite distro that works on 400mhz machine

Hello. Basically the title says it all. I've got a 400mhz machine with 128mb ram that i've tried to put mdk 9.2 with knome on. It works, but it's so slow. I only need it for office apps and the occasional surf/email, nothing complex or heavy.

I've heard of libranet which i will try, and also to use different (re lighter) windows managers.

Any ideas as to which ones (either distro or windows manager)?

Cheers Ross

Debian will run uber-fast! You can also try older versions of mandrake or RedHat.

Oh hell no,

I hope you were joking when you told him to try older versions of Red Hat and Mandrake, common you know better then that don't you?

To the thread starter,
You want a home/office distro that runs well on older computers. . . Take a look here:
=not so free=
Xandros - - - look here for min-sys-req.
=free=
Slackware - - - min-sys-req

I have never used Debian, besides Knoppix that is. Knoppix is slugish, but it is an easy way to install Debian on your system. (the hard drive install off the Knoppix CD leaves you with a Debian system under the hood.)
