I hate RedHat 9... What to switch to?

I really hate RedHat for going ahead and releaseing redhat 9.0. The sure did just skip from 8.0 to 9.0. What is the deal with that? Bottom line is I can't get a lot of perl stuff to work in it like CPAN. Lots of errors I have never seen before. Reason I am upgradeing is because there were some errors I was getting with sendmail in redhat 8.0. Things that should be taken care of by the time they release 8.2 :(

It is now time for me to turn my back on RedHat. Where should I go? What relaze would make a really good web, mail, samba server out of the box. with lots of perl support!

Maybe you should give Mandrake a try? Or gentoo?

I am downloading mandrake 9.1 right now and will try it tonite.

I'm curious about what problems you are encountering with RH9. Although RH is not my preferred OS, I do have several clients using it without any problems.

Moved: More suitable in the distro forum. Thanks.

I was trying to compile some CPAN perl modules like WWW:Mechanize and it failed out. I cant compile make with force :-/

Honestly I agree with you. Redhat Linux 8 & 9 did not meet my expectations. It has quite a few bugs and I don't like the default menu settings. I switched to Mandrake as well.

Redhat stopped using incremental releases. Its going from 8 to 9 and 9 to 10.

tbellas: Er.... 9.0.93 (Severn) is already out. The next one is Rawhide, does that mean it will be 10 and not 9.1? That seems a bit odd.

SuSE 8.2 is great, and CPAN works fine for me under it

This is from OSNews.com

The first thing you will note is that Red Hat has decided to move away from the x.x numbering of their products. Now they've moved directly from Red Hat 8.0 to Red Hat Linux 9 ending the 7.1,7.2,7.3,8.0 releases of times past, sure there was a 8.1 beta called Phoebe but that was all it was, a beta.

hi all,
i want to know whether a RedHat Linux 8.1 exists.if it does, is it stable?coz i heard that odd numbered releases (even if it is a kernel update) are just development versions and do not have any explicit support (read RHN update etc).is this true?

any one who has used RHL 8.1 plz apprise the forum of some of the features (or the lack of it) in the said release.
