I dont have ftp access but I need to download any major linux distro!!!!
Hi folks.
Iam using RH 7.2, and as things are right now I live in Lebanon ( me no terrorist lo0o0ol ) and there arent any vendors around who deliver in lebanon, I have access to a DSL connection but it is limited in that I cannot access any ftp servers, thus I can not download anything from an ftp server. But all other downloads work fine, so if anyone knows how to download any major linux distro ( debian, mandrake,RH,SUSE) without it being on a ftp server I would be very grateful.

You can find http mirrors for Slackware at:
www.slackware.com
I'd we willing to guess other distros do also, but Slack is the one I use. Good luck.

You may also try bittorrent. Many distros are distributed that way. Debian has http:// mirrors too

Out of interest and if you have time to talk about it, is this the norm for your country? Or is this a slightly cheaper form of DSL that is restricted?

Iam downloading the Slack distro, from the HTTP mirror, and I sent the answer of the last question to the email of SBing ( Not for privacy reasons, it just happened that way ) If anyone else wants to know, let SBing post the contents of the message as a reply.
Thank you again guys. ( keep the good work going, it is all about teamwork)

http://www.mirror.ac.uk allows http downloads of their content too; mind you the service has only recently be revamped and they're still updating lots of content.
cheers

About restrictions on ftp:
ALInux isn't the only who has got such a dsl connection: we on boarding school have the firewall with all ports but 80 closed, so we can only access HTTP sites.
As they say, it's simple, uncomfortable but a secure solution.
