How much stuff have I put into burn:/// ???

So, I'm burning CDs with RedHat 9, using the built-in Nautilus CD burning code. Is there any way to tell how much stuff I've dragged into the burn:/// window, short of clicking on the "Write CD" button and getting a number there? It would be nice if the burn:/// window would display how much has been dumped into it as I do it; is there some way to get this, and I've just missed it?

Thanks,
Jim Miller

You could open a terminal in another window and use the du command. See:
man du

I was going to do that (du), but what do I do du on? "du burn:///" doesn't work too well....

I really like that first sentence, by the way... :-)

Doo bee doo bee doo bee doo,

"Doo bee doo bee doo bee doo,"

I just finished reading Robert Graves autobiography, "Goodby to All That". Maybe meter is contagious.

"what do I do du on?"

I originally thought that Nautilus burn created a temporary file that it accumulated the iso image in. Now, I checked again with Google and I think that Nautilus merely builds a name list of files to be burned without copying those files to a temporary location. So the du idea probably will not work as a simple command.

I think that you would have to find out where Nautilus builds the name list and then write a script to read the name list and feed the names to du and keep a running total of the du results. It would probably be better to change Nautilus itself to keep a running total at the bottom of the screen.
