How long until repositories are updated for ubuntu 20.04
Since switching to Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa, I find it virtually impossible to install software. Either repositories don't exist for this distribution, or are depreciated, or the dependencies for compiling packages are out-of-date.
Furthermore there's the change from Python 2 to 3, which makes compilation scripts unable to work properly, even with 2to3.
My question is, how long it normally will be before software is updated. Is it maybe more useful to downgrade my Ubuntu distro, so that I can install software like VDrift (my latest failed installation attempt)? Or are there some general guidelines that I may follow in order to be able to install with less hassle?
Thx 4 your tips!

would be nice to show an actual error message. The ubuntu repos are usually uptodate, although sometimes there can be a delay (max a few days).
I guess your host is improperly configured. What is in /etc/apt/sources.list ?

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.
In the case of vdrift it might be the fact that the developer just quit the project. The last update was in 2015 but Ubuntu 20.4 was released in 2020. It was probably removed from the repository because it just did not work anymore and its not necessarily Ubuntu's fault the source may not compile correctly nor is it their job to update other people's software. If you need to run it then using an older version may be your only choice.
python conversion is not perfect. It maybe necessary to manually modify a version 2 script to work with the 3 interpreter. Its just how things work.

XtraDeb PPA provides VDrift for Focal. I don't believe it was ever provided by official Ubuntu repos.
