Why is it that everyone always asks what distribution is better than another one? For the most part you can get any of them for free, so why not try them out for yourself??

I think that there are too many of them. It would take a month or more to install all of them, play with them, learn them etc. When someone wants a well-configured system, it's not an option to try a new distro every week. That's why people ask....

Yes, it is. And there's no answer in longer time period.

I'm fairly new to linux and when I decided to give it a try I wanted to know which was the kewlest distro; which looks the best; is the fastest etc. The huge amount of choices overwhelmed me a bit cuz with so many there's gonna be nasty ones too eh.

But this is a typical question for people new to a topic.
I study philosophy and I can still remember the urge I had to find out which one of these philosophers was right :)

People like to be on the winning team I guess.

I just have some "want" to get attention of people so I reply to this because there's Nietzsche mentioned (I think that if you want to live right in a different way that's in my point of view is more creative, you should read Nietzsche philosophy about the chaos within YOU)
Be more creative or just follow the fashion around us (in my city there's a "hip hop" fashion, every body do break dance), you should read about the philosophy of the Chaos That "sink" every "deep value or real value", then you decide whether you want to live like you are living OR live like Buddha, overman

Yeah I have to say that I agree with Mara,

There are just so many! it is overwhelming, the amount of time it takes to D/L install and learn your way around a distribution is time consuming.

I tried over 40 distros before I found one I liked. it is about just about being persistant, Asking "which distro is right" just gives people a starting point
