You might want check out the New Distro called PClinuxOS... Extremely Nice and user friendly. Then once you get used to using Linux as a primary OS, Then switch to Slack-ware or Gentoo...

PClinuxOS is very polished and easy to install and use. I would also recommend giving it a try.

I am currently using 3 Linux OSs, Ubuntu, Xandros & PCLinuxOS. For a newbie I would have to recomment PCLInuxOS for starters. Ubuntu requires a lot of effort to get everything working. I've done it but it is time consuming and you have to read a lot. If you want to spend the bucks, Xandros works quite well.

Well since you don't want to try PCLinuxOS, And you did state that you trying Slackware. Extremely good Choice. You might also want to try Slack64 if your running a 64-BIT processor on your machine. If not you may also want to check out Gentoo, ArchLinix, and Suse... Also there is also LFS {Linux from Scratch}... You may find that it also might suite you for you OS needs. Well there my .... I hope that helps you in reaching your choice.

Fedora Core 4. It has lots of drivers, plus it holds the newest software repository available. Only thing is that it is often beta. So if you are prepared or at least not afraid to afjust/configure som settings a long the way, this would be a good choice.

Hello!
I've tried Debian stable, Arch linux, Frugalware, Ubuntu, Kubuntu...
My problem is, for example that Debain has Firefox-1.5 only in the Unstable version (and not in the testing). I would try testing, but is there any solution to bring these newer programs to testing?(firefox, Xorg....)
Or just waiting for the Debian team?
