Probably the number one most-asked question. Have you had a look over the various distributions on offer?

Have a look at:
http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/

However, I suspect that the guitar thing will be a linchpin for you. How do you hook your guitar up now? What "different effects" do you want? The rest is standard for all distros.

It is likely that the GNU/Linux offering will be more hard-core professional than you are used to. I will suggest that you start out more generic and get used to how things work.

Apart from that - please edit your profile to show your location. Thank you.

2) unfortunately I can not see how to search for it at www.distrowatch.com as its not a normal 'watched' package....its just software you can install.

3) another program you may be interested in is
audacity - Free Audio Editor With Effects/Analysis Tools
Audacity is a program that lets you manipulate digital audio waveforms.

In addition to letting you record sounds directly from within the program, it imports many sound file formats, including WAV, AIFF, MP3 and Ogg/Vorbis. It supports all common editing operations such as Cut, Copy, and Paste, plus it will mix tracks and let you apply plug-in effects to any part of a sound. It also has a built-in amplitude envelope editor, a customizable spectrogram mode and a frequency analysis window for audio analysis applications.

4) and this can be searched for at distrowatch...here I have selected multimedia as the main keyword
