Help choosing a distro.

I've tried: Redhat, Mandrake, Planet CCRMA, gentoo (never even booted up)

I need something reliable, fast, and if possible geared towards music.

*note, this is not a forum for discussing which distro is best, I simply want a recommendation specific to what I will be using my computer for

well d00d for something as general as music, your going to have to make your own system geared towards music, i am doubting there is a media distro ..

what are you trying to get across by saying "geared towards music"
cause personally with a comment like that, my answer would be "go download xmms, or install from your distros cd's "

any of them distros will/can serve the same purpose ..

wasn't EvilEntity designed to be a media distro? Just throwing that out there. I've been doing too much distro research lately.

Yay for Evil Entity! You are now speaking to the package maintainer of Evil Entity Linux! BWA HA HA HA...

Ok, EE is a multimedia heared distro. However, the current public release 0.2.5 is about as newbie un-friendly as you can get. HA HA HA, and you thought Debian was unforgiving!

Anyway, we are currently working on 0.3.0 for public release as I type this. Please note we are NOT a 1 off distro. We were originally "loosely" based on Slack, but are now 100% original code. We have a new init system that's booting a stock 2.6.4 kernel(lots of stuff compiled in for public use) in 5 second total.

So, if you can wait around for a month or so, definately give EE a try!

ok, I'll look at EE as well as...configuring my own system :O

American Psycho 04-04-2004 04:31 AM

EE isn't what I'm looking for...i was meaning something for a musician

notation, midi, sound recording, all of that

look at dyne:bolic . it's a media creation oriented livecd, might help with various media apps, etc. otherwise i'd use debian, if for nothing other than the excellent hardware detection.

note: as i've said before, i'm NOT looking for a media distro...but it doesn't matter anyway now because i'm going to start building lfs:study:
