Hi I am new to Linux and I am having a problem with my SUSE 9.0 systems. Whenever i try to update the kernel of SuSE Linux to 2.6.5 or try and do any automatic updates from SuSE my GUI's will no longer work. KDE, GNOME, or X WINDOWS will not work. MY screen will flash 2 or 3 times and it will give me a command line login. The only way to fix the kernel problem is to default back to 2.4 that came with SuSE but my wireless card does not work in 2.4. I am using a Dell Insipron 1100 with an Xterasys 802.11g card. ANy help on fixing this will be greatly appreciated.

sounds like you've installed the nvidia driver, and simply need to reinstall it, after each kernel update-
if so-
boot to init 3
cd /to/where/ever/the/driver/is/located
(you can download it from nvidia.com)
sh NVIDIAwhateverversionyouhave.run
finish all the prompts from the driver
sax2 -m 0=nvidia
finish up the prompts from sax2
FYI- you'll need kernel sources for the driver from NVIDIA.com
