Hello! I love Ubuntu. I sorta like Unity. Its look is nice, but it makes some things a little bit more of a hassle to do. I want to switch to another distro that's based on Ubuntu, not debian. (I know that Ubuntu is based on Debian, I'm saying no Debian based)

I've tried Linux Mint, but it has issues like when I'm typing, the touchpad will randomly activate and delete what im typing or will go inbetween a word.

Peppermint OS looks nice, but I'm not a big fan of the "internet" based apps.

Kubuntu I love, but I can't get the Super/Windows key to activate the menu, and it's super heavy on resources.

Ubuntu Gnome really doesn't let you customize...

Xubuntu/Lubuntu look dated.

I've used Mint off and on for several years on several computers with touchpads and have not encountered this. I suspect that it is something unique to your installation/hardware, and not a generic Mint problem. Of course, that doesn't make the problem go away.

Frankly, there are no *buntus other than Mint that I would give a second look at, but you might try Zorin. I have it in a VM; it's a little flashy for my taste, but it seems to be a pretty slick piece of work.

If you wish to break out of the *buntu corrall, you might take a look at Mageia or OpenSUSE.

And there's always Slackware . . . .

ElementaryOS?

The mint issue is really weird and I've only seen 1 other post on the Linux Mint Forums about it... I think it has to do with Asus's hardware. I'll check openSUSE via a VM

Seconds on Elementary, but also good are CentOS (Or Fedora if you like more cutting edge), Gentoo, Slackware (if you like very solid and conservative): it really depends upon your preferences and needs.

Try checking Distrowatch for ideas.

Its actually a great community driven Ubuntu side distro officially supported like a normal release of Ubuntu.
MATE at first may seem dated but its actually has loads customization options such as the ability to load transparent backgrounds into the panels to give it a more modern look.
Both Xubuntu, Lubuntu and Ubuntu MATE are more geared towards older computers so flashy aero style graphics are not in the cards right off the bat.
However all are highly able to look more like say windows 7 or OSX

Debian (it isn't Debian based).

I had that problem on a Lenovo laptop with Kubuntu and OpenSuse.

I fixed it by doing
System Settings => Input Devices => Touchpad
under Mouse Click Emulation, change the droplist after One finger to No action

probably you only need to replace unity, not the os itself. Have you tried gnome, lxde or any other dm?

Since you love Kubuntu but find it too resource heavy, my suggestion would be to use it and educate yourself about what default processes you really don't need to be running for the way you use your PC. KDE is a heavyweight only to cover all the bases and it is utterly commonplace that most people running a SOHO Desktop PC can turnoff the biggest ram hogs. Additionally Ubuntu makes way too many services active by default for exactly the same reason. You can vastly improve performance and the learning process will benefit you in ways you can't yet imagine.

I have. Gnome 3 doesn't feel "right" for a desktop and lacks customization. Lxde looks dated and I had a hard time configuring it when I used it. MATE my love too, but I don't want to go for a "traditional desktop". I want something like unity, but very very customizable.. Like KDE..
