Question Gentoo: Xorg blanks out - Caught signal 11 Server aborting

I emerged the ati drivers and used aticonfig to configure the xorg.conf file.

II typed startx and a bare xsession with a few terminal windows came up. I could not get out of it so I power cycled my box.

Now all that comes up is a blank screen.

The log says:

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

Any ideas to get X back up?

If I try to run xorgcfg I get:

Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

Failed to run "X -configure"

If I try to run X -configure I get:

Fatal server error
Caught signall 11. Server aborting

Aborted.

Is there a way to un-emerge and then reinstall X? Would that help?

I think it is not necessary to reinstall the whole X Window System. Be careful! If you want to change drivers or install new ones, backup first your /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Exactly this is the file you have to edit:

open it with an editor you want in the console, e.g. nano:

Code:
nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Search there in the section "Device" for the line "Driver", and change its value to "vesa" or "ati". VESA is a standard X driver for all video cards, but is a bit slow. ATI is an open source driver for your card. After you have changed it, restart X.

Can you post your /var/log/X*0*g?? It may helps for diagnose your problem. You don't necessary need to disable new fglrx driver to solve the problem.
