Gentoo - stuck at lilo boot prompt
 

I started a stage 1 install of gentoo a few days ago and have been following it by the book. Today I finally reached the point where the boot loader is installed and the computer is rebooted. I chose lilo instead of grub for my bootloader and lilo starts ok, but when it tries to boot i have problems. Here's what happens when I select gentoo from the lilo prompt:

boot:
Loading gentoo...................................
BIOS data check successful

and then the computer reboots.

I am pretty confident about my /etc/lilo.conf file but was wondering what is causing the problem.

Is it my kernel? Does it need to be recompiled? Is it something else?

Any insight/help on this problem is welcome.
