Hi Downloaded the latest "easy Install Live CD from Gentoo. Folks I don't know what the fuss is about on this installation but IT DONT WORK.
I follow Directions just drop in the CD and go and you know what it goes alright--- then does nothing. I can't get the pcmcia card to work with my network, can't get it pass go.
So if any you know these folks at Gentoo you might wanna tell'em they got problems.
Mandrake 9 works really well on this laptop w/o the hassle. I was really hoping to try this out but...... Maybe they need to work on it somemore.
Later..

I don't know about pcmcia in the gentoo kernel, but I also had a network driver problem. This is how I solved it: I already had the stage 3 tarball sitting on another partition on my HD and also the latest kernel source. I installed Gentoo without network from the CD and untarred the stage 3 tarball to have a working minimal Gentoo system. Then I compiled a new kernel, rebooted and compiled the driver for my onboard ethernet chip. That way I had the network running! Then I could continue emerging the rest of the install.
Well ikw38, the setup of Mandrake and the setup of Gentoo are quite diff considering the fact that Gentoo has to have all its packages compiled. The networking part is just a phase, you have to play some with it, but it really is a good distro, though i prefer slack, its all good.
You can go to http://www.gentoo.org and tell them yourself in the forum. If are nice enough to include some info about your hardware and what errors show up they might even help you out.
