gentoo install error....
everything was fine until i got to this:
....when i got to Part1 Chapter 6: Installing the Gentoo Base System, in the Gentoo Handbook.... i got down to where it says "Entering the new Environment" and when i typed this in: chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash this comes up: hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriverStatusError BadCRC } ide: failed opcode was : unknown whats wrong? and how do i fix it? |
I had this error and it was due to using an old 40 wire ide cable for the hard drive.
I upgraded to an 80 wire cable and the error went away. IDE cables must be no more than18" with both ends plugged in if you are using udma33 (mode2 udma) or better, or you have a good chance of signal degredation. Also be aware that some people have reported crosstalk with the new round style ide cables, which can cause errors, but I bought one and have had no problem. |
Also, make sure you have the jumpers set correctly on your hard drive(s). Don't do cable select. Set it to its appropriate setting(e.g. Master, Slave )
