Gentoo: gcc 4.1 on its way - any experiences?
Hi. Just read the Gentoo weekly newsletter which revealed the "long awaited moment of GCC 4.1 being unmasked".
Although Gentoo forums might be a more appropriate place to post this thread, it is still intriguing to hear about experiences. Anything to study beforehand? A list of broken packages? Worth the time? Or worth the risk?
My main native amd64 desktop system is compiled with gcc 3.4.5 and very conservative cflags, i.e. -O2 -march=athlon64 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer. (And I know, the last one is not needed with a pure amd64.) Everything is working currently without a flaw. The system includes just a few packages with ~amd64, and there are those I just can not live without (such as R and latex/tetex, etc.). My setup includes also few x86 Gentoo machines.
Cheers.
