This seems to be a common problem so im sure there is a way toi fix this, im pretty new to gentoo so if someone could help me out. Thanks in advance
I had this problem when I needed to run opengl-update nvidia after installing the nvidia drivers. Other people have complained of the same thing. If you didn't use the protage package this post from the Gentoo Forums talks about how to get the GL stuff working so protage links against it correctly:
"Problem solved.
Since i couldn't run "opengl-update nvidia" because i used nvidia's own drivers and not the "emerge nvidia-* drivers" i did the fololwing:
To find out what lib libGL.so is currently linked to and take note:
Code:
ls -l /usr/lib/libGL.so
To setup the opengl stuff (This will change the libGL.so to link another GL lib, among other things i have no idea about ):
Code:
opengl-update xfree
But we want it to be linked to the old one, so:
Code:
rm /usr/lib/libGL.so
ln -s /usr/lib/[The old lib here (in my case libGL.so.1)] /usr/lib/libGL.so
After that gimp and all the other libs compiled.
This worked for me but that's no garantee, i'm just a gentoo n00b" -tc-
Also, not that I want to discourage you posting on this forum. This is a great forum for linux problems. But for Gentoo specific issues you will tend to get faster and more complete responces from forums.gentoo.org.
why thank you very much. that worked! i originally had the nvidia drivers i downloaded from the site installed becuse emerging them i had trouble with the 2.6.5 kernel. i didnt feel like all the sym linking and hunting so i decided to make gentoo emerge them, i finally got them installed, for some reason gentoo has the latest drivers masked. no i am curious as to why i had to do this because the last install of gentoo i had on here i didnt have to. did me emergring gnome with the usepkg option the first time and not the second time have something to do with it?
