gentoo compilation time

Hi guys,
I'm compiling gentoo at the moment [i've just done emerge -u system]. It's taking ages. Does anyone have any experince setting up gentoo? As this is my first time with gentoo, I'm using a stage 3 tarball. Is this the longest step that there is to do? And roughly how long will it take [a time with a processor from personal experience would be great].
Many thanks,
andy

Well that's the thing with gentoo. It is optimized to your system so it takes a long time.

depends what you want on the system as to how long it takes... KDE will take ages too.. so don't install it! http://blackboxwm.sf.net

to get fully installed to using blackbox, my system only took one evening / night really.
