Gentoo Boot Problems
I spent an entire night installing Gentoo 2004.0 (Because I couldn't get 2004.1 to work with my ADSL). When I finally finished everything I tried to restart and it locked at 'lo off' or something, so I just turned off my compuer and turned it back on. Well, I installed lilo so it booted up fine with a list that had 'gentoo' and 'windows.' When I choose 'gentoo' it showed 'booting gentoo...' and then the screen went black and the 'caps' and 'scroll' lights continiously flashed. I have no idea what went wrong because I went by the manual when it came to setting up lilo, but it obviously didn't boot the kernel right. Windows would still boot fine from lilo, but gentoo would not. I don't know what I should do. Does anybody know how I could fix this error? Thanks for any help.

You will have to try installing the system again.
make sure to follow all the instructions as they appear and if you are not sure about a step. do a search on the Gentoo fourms and if you don't find anything then post. Gentoo is alot of work but it really pays off I have two desktops and one laptop running it and they are all great. |
what u had was a kernel panic...
anyways, i dont know how u went wrong. i think the gentoo handbook is the most accurate guide out there compared to many othe linux how-to's. the handbook lists what u must do and then also gives u options, if u just stick to what it says and skip the options u shouldnt get confused and u should have a system in good time. i have a 1mb dsl line and now it takes me 4hrs30mins to install a base system Stage2 with a custom kernel. just dont give up :) |
have u come right yet?
