Gentoo and genkernel

I finally got Gentoo working today, but when it booted a got a few errors about the eithernet and USB. Plus Gnome runs slooow!

So I'm considering genkernel. Should I use it, or try to recompile everything manually again?

If I can't get this working I might go to Debian or Arch.

Well, I would just go back and fix those ethernet and USB issues in the kernel and recompile. The good news is that once you get a working config file you won't have to make many changes in later kernel releases. I'm not sure why Gnome is running slow though.

If ever my network is playing up it makes my computer really slow, that could be the cause of your gnome problem.

It's not that much of a hassle to just remake the kernel. You can even do it from the existing kernel. I configured my kernel about four times before I had it how I wanted. I might even do it again just for the hell of it, to be sure.

Just made a new kernel from scratch. Eveything works fine now except that I can't get my mouse wheel to work with Xorg. I'm really impressed.

Thanks. I actually tried putting that in my Xorg conf file before you posted, but I miss-spelled something.

Got it working though.
